Opening of Brancott Boulevard Cycle Path
On Tuesday 15 October 2019 the Bike / Walk Working Group celebrated the official opening of the Brancott Boulevard Cycle Path Way - the latest link in a series of bike/walk paths in and around Renwick as reported in the The Sun Newspaper. Congratulations to Steve and the team.
Renwick Smart and Connected Bike - Walk Working Group members: Margaret Cresswell, Brigid Forrest and Steve Hill having just completed a survey of a section of stop bank that we hope will be able to become another walking and cycling trail.
Brief update on Renwick Smart and Connected Bike - Walk Working Group’s latest walking and cycling trail…
The latest trail runs from Wairau River Wines on Rapaura Rd, along SH 6 past Riverlore Gallery, then past Hunters Wine’s vineyard, uses part of Newman Rd before arriving at the Wairau River stop-bank. From here there is easy access under the bridge to the Foxes Island mountain bike park.
This Rapaura to River completes the ‘Safer Access’ for families from Renwick to cycle or walk from the village to the river and mountain bike park without having to cycle on main roads and the state highway.
The Cycle Working Group wish to thank: Rata Foundation and Bike Walk Marlborough for their generous donations. Also Wairau River Wines, Hunters Wines and Joanna and Ray at the Riverlore Gallery all who have allowed the trail to cross their land. And finally; The Marlborough District Council, Marlborough Roads and Councillor Cynthia Brooks.
The trail earthworks were carried out by local contractor Murray Newman of Newman Excavations.
While the official opening is yet to come, the path itself is finished and is already seeing lots of use.
The areas adjacent to the path have been re-grassed and it’s starting to look very tidy.
A group working bee has erected a fence where the path crosses Hunter’s vineyard land.
The Marlborough District Council are in the process of finishing the signs.
Wine Marlborough have generously donated some large stainless-steel signs which are going to be used as the basis for a sign on this trail which will: Provide directions and a map of the whole cycle/walk network, provide other useful local information and allow a space for acknowledging the help from the Rata Foundation and other supporters.
